Admission Information

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0
  • Introductory Statistics (MAT 311 or equivalent)
  • Introductory Computer Programming (MAT 241, Coursera Python for Everyone, or equivalent)
  • Introductory Calculus (MAT 126 or equivalent) – recommended

Admission Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale).
  2. Statement of Intent (2–3 pages) covering:
    • Your background (education, hobbies, work, life experiences)
    • Your academic and professional goals, and how this program supports them
    • Why you are interested in Data Science
    • Why you chose the DSA program at Buffalo State (program, school, location, and Professional Science Master’s benefits such as required business courses and internship)
    • Why you are a strong fit and how you will contribute
    • Any additional information (e.g., explanation of incomplete or low grades)
  3. Interview – scheduled after your completed application is received.

The GRE is not required!

Application Deadlines: Rolling admission. Students may start in Fall, Spring, or Summer.

International Students

Additional application materials are required for international applicants. Please review the Graduate School’s International Applicant Information.

Application Deadlines:

  • Fall start: July 1
  • Spring start: December 1
  • Summer start: April 1

Application Fee Waiver: Applicants facing economic or other hardships may request a fee waiver. Submit a written request with justification to the Graduate School at gradoffc@buffalostate.edu.
